It started with a simple idea: mothers swim free. What followed was one of the most joyful mornings Happy Waves has ever seen.
Moms arrived nervous, eager, unsure. By the end, most had been in the water. Some swam laps alongside their little ones. Others floated quietly in the shallow end, holding small hands. A few wept — and nobody thought that was strange.
There is something about water that strips away pretence. In the pool that morning, there were no roles or routines — just mothers and children, sharing something new. The kids were the best cheerleaders. “Mama, you’re doing it!” was the phrase of the day.
